OUR STORY

MEET Cecile, OUR FOUNDER

I Cancel That: An Apparel and Accessories Brand with a Message for Our Time.

Unlike "Cancel Culture" and Other Forms of Exclusion, I Cancel That is all about Uplifting, Resilience, and the individual's dignity.

I Cancel That founder Cecile Torchon has been using these words as a mantra for most of her life. I Cancel That – not to be confused with its polar opposite, "cancel culture" – is self-empowering; people can use these three simple words to protect and heal themselves, and regain control over their mind.

The brand I Cancel That was born in 2013 when Cecile’s son, then in middle school, told her that he was being bullied. So she instilled in him the mantra that had helped her for so long and in so many different situations.  He then adopted the words "I cancel that" as a defense, to negate the hurtful words of his tormentors. Over time, he realized that the phrase was infused with a vital message of optimism and self-affirmation. Cecile then told her friends about “I cancel that” and they started using it too, adding their own variations and tailoring it to fit different situations, with "I cancel hate" becoming one of the most popular versions.

I Cancel That is a brand with the conscience of an activist and the soul of a movement. "I Cancel That can neutralize the ills of social media and the divisiveness that now dominate society,” says Torchon.

A portion of the profits for I Cancel That will be used to aid in the fight against injustice and climate change, through donations to the Innocence Project, the Rainforest Coalition, various LGBTQ rights groups, and the NAACP Legal Fund
